I have recently been asked to repair a Dell Studio 1450 that was originally equipped with WinXP, and then clean loaded with a copy of Win 7 Home Premium. Since the computer was disabled with the FBI ransomware virus it has since lost the drivers for the ethernet and wireless capabilities of the OS. I attempted to load Ubunbtu 12.01 and it would not load, it gets to a point in the process and just stops loading, then I also have a copy of U 8.04(? I think), and I attempted to load that thinking that perhaps since it was an older version that it may load, same result, it loads to some point in the process and stops. Is there something that I can do to see what and where it is stopping that would give me a clue as to why Ubuntu will not load and go in this machine? I really like using Ubuntu as a troubleshooting tool for those intransigent computers that are damaged and I have not experienced this sort of failure to load before. If you can provide a little advice it would be very much appreciated.
