I upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04. Now when I turn on the computer it just says ubuntu 10.04 and just keeps on loading. I'm not sure if this is part of the upgrade or if something has gone wrong. Is this meant to happen?

No, it's not meant to happen - The upgrade has not gone smoothly for some reason.

Try upgrading again...

Do follow the Ubuntu guide here

And the Release notes for 10.10 here - especially the Known Issues section

If that doesn't work, use the recovery console to get to the root of the problem on your system, you'll need to use search the net, try to identify keywords that describe your symptoms.

Otherwise, I suggest backing up all your important data & scripts and do a fresh install.

For extra, extra help get on IRC - irc.freenode.net @ #ubuntu
