I am trying to setup desktop recording in my office to help train our operators and I have almost everything working under Ubuntu12.
I am using avconv to record the desktop and audio:
avconv -f alsa -i plughw:1,0 -f x11grab -r 30 -s 1920x1080 -i sys243:0.0 -vcodec libx264 -acodec libmp3lame myscreencase.mp4
(we use an USB headset). Everything works great! Have the desktop, have sound.
But we also use the headset for phone calls via twinkle. If recording is running before the phone call, twinkle will fail because the microphone is in use. If twinkle is running first, avconv will fail for the same reason:
[alsa @ 0x9893280] cannot open audio device plughw:1,0 (Device or resource busy) plughw:1,0: Input/output error
I tried changing avconv:
avconv -f alsa -i pulse -f x11grab -r 30 -s 1920x1080 -i :0.0 -vcodec libx264 -acodec libmp3lame myscreencase.mp4
but I never get sound in the recording and the mic in the headset is always working. I really don't understand much about the sound system in Lunix.
I am not against something other than avconv, but avconv doesn't have post-recording encoding time with the settings I am using (really important).
Thanks in advance!
