am trying to install the Nvidia Driver but it keeps givin me close the X server.. I tried the usual way.. to kill the gnome manager.. didn't work because of an error :s

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop // Error here

sudo chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.36-pkg1.run

sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.36-pkg1.run

Tried to run it in the recovery mode.. but the X Server is not shuttin :s
