Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free.

I downloaded the ISO file and burn the images onto the USB and CD. Tried to install from USB then CD, neither works. The installation will bring up the Ubuntu screen and "try" and "install" option. After choosing either one then the screen went black and stay that way for a long time with no prompt or anything. Eventually, I turned off the computer. No install. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Quite likely there is a problem with the graphics driver. To workaround it, When you get the "try or install" menu screen try to hit F4 and select "Safe Graphics Mode" and load with that.

If that also fails, maybe the "OEM Installer Mode" (Also available under F4) is text-only installer mode which lets you install ubuntu without using graphic mode at all, and after the installation is done you can troubleshoot the graphics.
