just installed ubuntu 12.04. It's my first time and I cant seem to be able to install software available for download. When I use sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install on terminal, I get the following error mesage:

Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with Merge List /var/lib/apt/lists/cm.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_universe_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Unfortunatelly there is no automated fix yet. Do

sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/* -vf
sudo apt-get update

And all should be fine. Source:
