Hello I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10, and after looking around the internet for several hours, I have found many similar questions. but no definite answers.

I am new to linux and I am using an HP dv3 laptop, and the problem is that the wireless internet connection continues to reset and never actually connects. Furthermore when I activate the wireless internet button, it automatically disables the internet on my Mac computer aswell. Then when I disable the button once again on the laptop, the internet on the rest of the computers in the house work again.

Connecting the internet wire directly to the laptop does not work, and I have not managed to attain an actual connection to the internet at all despite it having said it is connected off and on.

I will also need to figure out how to move information from laptop to this forum in order to answer tech questions, because Mac can't read the text editor.

Two stats from lspci are:

02:00.0network controller: intel corporation pro/wireless 5100 agn [shiloh] network connection
03:00.0 ethernet controller: realtek semiconductor co., ltd RTL810E/Rtl8102E PCI express fast ethernet controller 9rev02)

And finally on the bottom of the laptop it is a dv3-2154ca.

This looks like a general network issue to me, not related to Ubuntu. The fact that connecting your wireless makes another computer to stop working is really strange and probably a symptom of a problem with your network configuration or equipment (like your router). – Javier Rivera Mar 20 at 10:05
Please try the fix here: askubuntu.com/questions/257362/… – chili555 Mar 20 at 12:36
yes i fixed the problem, it certainly was an issue with the dlink router. So i removed it and set my mac desktop as the new wireless router and now everything is working great. thanks. – user142692 Mar 23 at 2:30
