I'm trying to create a dualboot of Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.04 on my HP Pavilion sleekbook.
I have shrunk the pre-installed windows partition, and created an installation USB. The installation ran smoothly the first time, till it asked me to reboot.
On reboot without the USB, windows boots directly. On boot with the installation USB, after passing by the installation menu, it boots to the GRUB rescue prompt. Attempts to reinstall work fine till it tries to install grub, there it gives fatal errors.
exploring using ls, I get unknown filesystem for everything but (hd1,gpt6), which gives bad filename, so I don't know how to work from there.
I can choose 'try Ubuntu without installing', which works fine. However, attempts to fix the problem using grub-install give the following error messages:
warn: This GPT partition label has no BIOS Boot Partition; embedding won't be possible!.
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Embedding is not possible.
GRUB can only be installed in this setup by using blocklists. However, blocklists are UNRELIABLE and their use is discouraged.
/usr/sbin/grub-setup: error: will not proceed with blocklists.
Bootrepair also didn't solve the problem. The bootrepair
Any ideas on how I can proceed?
