I am trying to setup nx server for my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Can't make it to accept nx client sessions. I have tried to connect from both Mac and Windows clients. Following are log message. I don't understand many things in there, but one thing I checked: Eventhough I enabled set:

SESSION_LOG_CLEAN=0

No folder named "ubuntuserver-2000-12D9AB26476C506AC86C26C3242C4D2A" exists afer. I don't know if it ever get created.

From the No Machine NX client, appeared an error message:

Error is 5: Input/output error

Update:

I have tracked down to this: associated packages with freenx server were not upgrade successfully during the OS upgrade.

I did following command:

apt-get purge freenx freenx-rdp freenx-server freenx-session-launcher freenx-smb freenx-usermode freenx-vnc nx-common nxagent

and then:

apt-get install freenx freenx-rdp freenx-server freenx-session-launcher freenx-smb freenx-usermode freenx-vnc nx-common nxagent

This error occured:

Setting up freenx-session-launcher (0.7.3.zgit.120322.977c28d-0~ppa11) ...
invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/dbus not found.
dpkg: error processing freenx-session-launcher (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 100

ldconfig deferred processing now taking place
Errors were encountered while processing:
 freenx-session-launcher
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I think somehow "apt-get purge" command above removed /etc/init.d/dbus.

This command fixed the error:

aptitude reinstall upstart

This fixed my problem :-) For anyone interested in fresh installation of Freenx to Precise, I googled "Installing the FreeNX server on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS" and got some good hits on blogs.
