Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am trying to install vcstools package as you notice int he following lines:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install vcstools
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package vcstools

I've read that I need to add a repository for that package which is available at http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/science/ with the sudo add-apt-repository command; however, I haven't known how add the package and install it.

I would therefore be delighted if anyone could help me and let me know how you propose to solve these little inconvenience.

Regards,

MA

The package in ubuntu repo is vcftools, not vcstools. Isn't it the package you want? –  Eric Carvalho Mar 17 '13 at 20:58
