Okay. So there is a certain window manager theme I'd REALLY like to install. As far as I understand, before being able to install & apply it, I needed some other software. Those included Compiz, Compiz Fusion, Emerald Theme Manager.

I had to also change the setting in Compiz to emerald --replace in the command setting for the window manager software, which I did. I then imported the theme into Emerald and the theme won't apply. I'm wondering if there is anyone who can help me?

I've tried typing emerald --replace & into the terminal, and I just get a short message with some numbers. Nothing else happens. I've tried exporting/saving the theme and re-importing the newer, saved version and that didn't help either.

I'm using Gnome 3 DE. Any help would greatly be appreciated...

Compiz should already be installed; you can install emerald with this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install emerald –  Vreality Mar 15 '13 at 13:01

When you say that you're using Gnome 3 DE, you mean that you're running gnome-shell? You can't use Compiz (or Emerald) with shell. –  cscarney Mar 15 '13 at 13:40
