My computer has an older version of Ubuntu that I just installed the other day. After realizing how outdated that version was, I downloaded the 12.10 version to the computer. I also saved it to USB and DVD. I cannot get the computer to open with the disc, USB or from the file on the computer. It shows the USB and the disc on the computer, but does not want to open with the new version or give me any way to install it onto the computer.

Let us know if you verified the checksum of the version of Ubuntu you downloaded using a file verification tool like GtkHash. –  karel Mar 13 '13 at 15:00

Saving the ISO file to USB or DVD will not do. Have you followed the directions at How to Burn a DVD and How to create a USB stick? You have boot from the Live USB/DVD to install or try Ubuntu. What happens when you try to boot from USB or DVD? –  user68186 Mar 13 '13 at 15:29
