I'm a Ubuntu newbie and my Ubuntu 12.10 cannot connect to my wired connection. I'm on a router and I don't have DHCP. I don't know anything about using the terminal stuff. If someone can give me a step by step process on how to solve the problem?

I installed Ubuntu together with my Windows XP, i'm having a dual boot.

Don't have DHCP on a router? Why not? What's the model of the router? –  mikewhatever Mar 11 '13 at 16:58
