I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop. I ran my install while plugged into the Ethernet port so the WiFi drivers installed automatically and are now working just fine.
My WiFi is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01)
My Ethernet is a Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5906M Fast Ethernet PCI Express (rev 02)
However, I can find no way to access and change the hardware settings for the WiFi card (or the Ethernet card). I need to be able to activate/deactivate things like channel number, burst mode, afterburner mode, radio power, WMM support, etc. How do I do this? These settings are often critical to network performance and connectivity. There are times when having even one of these settings configured wrong will prevent connection to a router, or at the very least create throughput issues.
I would prefer to be able to change these settings via a GUI, but I would settle for how to modify them via the CLI.
