Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed (I'm running KDE 4.8 instead of unity). Samba share via Dolphin works absolutely fine. I have access to all my files on my Windows PC.

However, when it comes to open files that are hosted on my Windows machine via an application (e.g. Thunderbird or K3b) it just doesn't work. I can add files but than the applications say no file added. I guess, somehow I have to give Ubuntu applications permission to access the Windows network?

What can I do?
