Previously I have been running Ubuntu alongside Windows 7 and installing it was fine using the installer provided from the Ubuntu website. I have just bought a new laptop and it has come pre installed with Windows 8 and can see that setting up a Dual Boot is a little trickier?
The spec of the laptop looks like this
Inspiron 15z - 5523 Ultrabook Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-3517U (1.90 GHz, 4M Cache) with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.00 GHz 6 GB DDR3 Dual Channel 1600MHz (2 DIMMs)
So the first thing i have done is get the iso file (64 bit) from http://sourceforge.net/projects/linux-secure/files/
First thing I noticed is that it is version 12.10 rather than the LTS version of 12.04, can I not use 12.04?
My question is has anyone set this up on a similar machine and what should i look out for before starting the installation, kind of like pre flight checks, I have noticed that people have mentioned to disable quickboot, turn off secure boot.
Also do i have to create a partition before setup ready for Ubuntu or will the install do that for me?
Any help appreciated as I dont want to rush this and would like to get it right
