I have this problem, if I try and activate Nvidia drivers (using the additional drivers tool) it freezes my computer. What I mean by freezes is... if I turn on the computer, I'm able to use it for about 45 seconds until nothing works besides the mouse; the mouse will still move around but not anything else. I've tried, Nvidia current, Experimental 304, and experimental 310, all do the same thing.

I tried this: My computer freezes when nvidia drivers activated

but

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current=295.49-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1

comes out with this error:

Version '295.49-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1' for 'nvidia-current' was not found

I'm on an apple computer, dualbooting ubuntu 12.04 and osx.

If there's anything else I need to tell you, please let me know. :D

so an important question would be, have you tried nouveau? –  Soroosh129 Mar 8 '13 at 0:56

@Soroosh129 I don't believe so. Would... ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046504 this be the best way to do so? –  user138485 Mar 8 '13 at 15:21

seems safe to me but two notes: first there is a good chance nouveau can't handle your graphic card, second there is a good chance that something goes wrong and then you can't boot Ubuntu normally, It will be accessible using the recovery option though, so proceed with caution, also in case the first one happened, you can safely install NVIDIA current since you have removed the ugly one. –  Soroosh129 Mar 8 '13 at 15:41
