Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm using the ambiance theme (the dark one) in Ubuntu 12.04.2. I've tweaked things using dconf-editor so that the select colour is blue (#4a90d9 if anybody cares). What I'd like to do is make the close button in the theme match this selection colour.
Obviously, the button's colour is dictated by the .png file in the theme, so I tried making a separate theme for this and changing the files. This didn't work, and the button remained orange.
I am now at a loss, so can anybody help?

[UPDATE]
So what I did was this:

  • Copied the folder Ambiance from /usr/share/themes to ~/.themes
  • Edited the index.theme file to change the name of the theme
  • Open the close.png and its variants in GIMP and edit it, then saved in both the Metacity-1 folder and the Unity folder
  • I change the theme using Unsettings and the close button remains the same

Could you explain your steps in more detail? –  user25656 Mar 7 '13 at 2:43

Updated explanation added - I'll have a look at editing the .xml file as well –  Bill O'Dwyer Mar 7 '13 at 14:21

@vasa1 I had a look at the possible duplicate, but I don't really know what I'm doing editing the .xml file... –  Bill O'Dwyer Mar 7 '13 at 14:37

There is an "or" in that comment @BillO'Dwyer : change the close button image the theme is using and replace it with what you want. –  Rinzwind Mar 7 '13 at 15:53
