I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 to my Gateway E-Series with a VGA 82845G graphics controller. Compiz crashed and terminal message error indicates that Unity is not compatible with my graphics.

This are the results (output) of the commands:

setsid unity -> Result:

X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficinet resources for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 3 (X_GLXCreateContext) Serial number of failed request: 32 Current serial number in output stream: 33 compiz (core) - Into: Unity is not supported by your hardware. Enabling software rendering instead (slow). Same error again and then it says Segmentatin fault (core dumped)

lspci|grep VGA -> Result:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Interl Corporation 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics devise (rev 03)

Once I restart the computer there is an orange screen w the mouse pointer. I was able to see the error using Linux terminal. I am posting from my laptop because the desktop is nonfunctional. –  Maria Mar 5 '13 at 12:56
