I've been using ubuntu 12.10 (dual boot with Windows 7) for 2 weeks without any problems. Suddenly it hangs (I wasn't doing anything in particular, didn't download or update any drivers), I force restarted it and now it freezes on a blank purple screen. Sometimes it freezes on a black screen with a blinking cursor.
I had recently changed the grub line
radeon.audio=1 to get sound when hooking up the laptop to my tv via hdmi cable (which worked). It was running fine for about a week until today. When i replace the line
ro quiet splash radeon.audio=1 $vt_handoff to
nomodeset radeon.audio=0..., it will boot to a black screen with a bunch of output and freezes with the last line of output being:
[ 2.582588] pci 0000:00:01.0: MSI quirk detected; subordinate MSI disabled
This happens when I run it on recovery mode too.
I know there are a bunch of other similar posts but i still can't get it to work.
