Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I can't assign ratings! What is the rating tab for? It has always been blank and doesn't change.

Edit: Sorry for omitting the details. Please don't criticize my choice of music.

can't do anything to the ratings, for any kind of media file.

proof that I'm using Ubuntu -- apparently, my coming to this forum is not sufficient to infer this.

Are you trying to rate mp3? –  Mostafa Shahverdy Mar 2 '13 at 18:14
What Ubuntu version are you running? Did you use Software Center to install VLC? Can you include a screenshot in the question? –  Eric Carvalho Mar 2 '13 at 18:36
@user137017 By now I don't see any related to Ubuntu. Please add more information (screenshoot is very important) to see if this should remain open. Take a look at the meta page to see how this site work. –  Lucio Mar 2 '13 at 19:40
@Lucio There's no clear reason to think this is off-topic (I'm guessing an OT flag is yours), and you haven't given one. Is this is a bug? Then it's off-topic, but I don't see any reason to think that. Is the OP not running Ubuntu? We should not assume that. Is this not specific to Ubuntu but would also apply to Windows? That doesn't make something OT. Do you think there's not enough information provided to answer this? That does not seem to be what you're saying (you seem to be saying there's not enough info to know it's Ubuntu-specific). If it can't be answered it may be NARQ (not OT). –  Eliah Kagan Mar 2 '13 at 20:41
