Try Minitube. It's been updated to work with even the latest Ubuntu version.

Install with the following commands

  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ferramroberto/minitube

  • sudo apt-get update

  • sudo apt-get install minitube

Sorry for the format. I'm on my phone :(

Downloading from youtube can be done from the terminal.

The link I gave above does not work. ubuntu@ubuntu:~/Downloads$ [youtube] Setting language [youtube] Zv-1IqeqsHc: Downloading video webpage [youtube] Zv-1IqeqsHc: Downloading video info webpage [youtube] Zv-1IqeqsHc: Extracting video information ERROR: no known formats available for video – Suresh Mar 2 '13 at 7:59

movgrab which you will have to compile manually (try compiling with SSL/HTTPS option). Works for me most of the time. This command-line program supports also other sites (I think Vimeo is included).

That also doesnt work. It says Unknown youtube format. Is there any advantage using these command line options, when easy are available – Suresh Mar 2 '13 at 8:37
1) File a bug to the author of movgrab . This would be very helpful and possibly he will fix the bug soon. 2) Ever heard of torrents? – Melon Mar 2 '13 at 11:31
