I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit version on my Sony Vaio laptop after deciding I didn't want windows 7 home premium anymore. I originally booted the set up program for Ubuntu by extracting the files in the .iso to a folder in Windows and running the Wubi.exe but I discovered that this only made my computer have a dual boot option when powered on which is not what I wanted. I then proceeded to install Ubuntu via usb and that seemed to work until I rebooted. Upon reboot the screen went purple as if it was going to load up Ubuntu but instead it just black screened and hung there. I then force shut down the laptop and turned it back on. This time when the system started up I got a menu with the options of "Ubuntu" and "Advanced options for Ubuntu". I chose Ubuntu and the system started just fine but the black screen continued to appear whenever I rebooted. I tried formatting the hard drive and re-installing Ubuntu that way but the problem persisted. I am at a loss with what to do. I have and AMD ATI Radeon Graphics card which I believe is the cause if the problem but I still don't know how to fix the issue.
