I got dual (Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows 7) booting system installed on my PC (Dell Inspiron N4050 with A04 BIOS version).
I can boot successfully from Windows but not any more from Ubuntu after installation of some packages and accepting a kernel update (from Linux 3.5.0-24-generic to Linux 3.5.0-25-generic).
There would be some loading messages as follows:
Loading Linux 3.5.0-24-generic ... Loading initial ramdisk ...
and later the Ubuntu logo page that comes up will stay there forever. I would always have to use the power button to reboot.
This is the case, whichever of the previous kernels I select from.
I got a friend who uses Linux to give me some help but he tried and still the problem couldn't be solved. He however, suggested that we should install the Linux OS system on an external hard drive so that I can boot from there whenever I chose to work with Linux. Therefore, Fedora 18 was successfully installed on my reliable 160GB Freecom Tough Hard Drive. Unfortunately, again the same problem of booting from the Linux OS still remains.
Please help resolve the issue.
