540m is optimus enabled GPU. No support for linux by nvidia. So here is workaround - wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee#Installation & configuring external monitor in such configuration - github.com/Bumblebee-Project/Bumblebee/wiki/Multi-monitor-setup .Read the wiring system first in this page. For your reference most probably your GPU is connected to HDMI port (2nd case in as mentioned in wiring paragraph) –  Web-E Feb 24 '13 at 7:34
Thanks for mentioning that (+1). That manual though seemed to be too hard for me to grasp. It is very confusing. I have already installed the bumblebee packages but i don't know what i should do the next step. Please help! –  CompilingCyborg Feb 24 '13 at 10:10
