Whenever I try to install a C++ library, ending with "-dev" I get an unmet dependecies alert that won't let me install the library, and the dependency is always already installed, the same thing happens with MuseScore

Can you give us error message? –  Olcay Ertaş Feb 23 '13 at 20:05

The same happens with anything? –  Lucio Feb 23 '13 at 20:06

the error message is: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. (Details) The following packages have unmet dependencies: freeglut3-dev: Depends: freeglut3 (= 2.6.0-1ubuntu2) but 2.6.0-1ubuntu2 is to be installed –  hubbardh Feb 23 '13 at 20:41

does sudo apt-get -f install help? If not run update and sudo apt-get clean, then sudo apt-get autoremove, finally sudo apt-get -f install. You can always set versions to install directly. In this case sudo apt-get install freeglut3=2.6.0-1ubuntu2 –  phipsalabim Feb 23 '13 at 22:43
