When I recently installed Ubuntu (wubi), it unexpectedly just worked straight out the box without setting up the proxy I go through (University network). After rebooting, I couldn't connect to the internet with any applications, so I tried setting up the proxy in the network settings ("system wide settings"). I tried pointing Ubuntu to the automatic proxy configuration script (http://wwwcache.nottingham.ac.uk/proxy.pac), I also tried manually adding the proxy address (18.104.22.168:8080), but nothing worked. I set Firefox to auto detect proxy settings, but still no luck.
Any advice? Thanks.
edit: I forgot to mention. While Ubuntu was successfully connected when I first installed it, I installed the Linux Standard Base (apt-get install lsb-core), which my Uni says is necessary for any Linux distribution to connect.
