I'm having a hard time understanding what this is supposed to mean.

So the instructions hold true that OS X tends to put files in dmg but doesn't explain what you should do to fix that. My mac created
ubuntu.img.dmg so could the .dmg just be deleted?
The directions switch back to .img files in the rest of the instructions. So what is the solution? I really don't understand why this isn't elaborated in the instructions, if .img is necessary for a bootable disk then why does OS X make a .dmg and HOW DO YOU FIX THAT?
