I messed with some files and I broke xfce, and I did these 2 commands:

apt-get install --reinstall xfce4 and apt-get install --reinstall xfce4-session

Now my home folder got completely wiped out and restored to the default one, with the common directories (Downloads, Desktop, etc) but without my old files.

Did I lost everything definitely or is there a chance to get them back?

I do not see how those commands would do anything to /home. What other commands did you run ? –  bodhi.zazen Feb 20 '13 at 3:12

OP seems to be having other problems judging by the question here: "I had some problems before doing this where xfce won't start (applications started, but no borders and couldn't type anything on the keyboard)"... I'd rather go for a total new installation (assuming there are no hardware problems) than try to Band-Aid things. –  user25656 Feb 20 '13 at 3:18

Do you have a non-standard home folder or is it the normal /home/username type thing? –  neon_overload Feb 20 '13 at 3:18

@bodhi.zazen just those as far as I remember –  Pacha Feb 20 '13 at 3:20
