I know that the question is possibly a bit broad, but please bear with me. I'll try to supply as much detail as I can, but please ask if there is further info you would like.
So I have an ubuntu laptop that I use for development.
I have apache 2.2.2 installed and running (I thought I did this from source originally also, but maybe not !)
I have been able to successfully build the 2.4 web server (along with all the required apr stuff).
But when I reboot my laptop if I log onto the web server
telnet localhost 80
and then do
I obviously get logged out with an error message from the server that states that I still have apache 2.2.2 (not 2.4).
I'm guessing that the 'default' location for the configure script is not the same as the location of my current (or what will be previous) web server, and hence when I reboot the sctartup script is looking in the wrong place for the binaries.
It seems that the original web server has placed all its stuff in /usr/lib/apache2 and my newly created stuff is on /usr/local/apache2.
I know that I can configure my new and old servers to run simultaneaously. I can find the httpd.conf file(s) and see that the server port information is not 'uncommented' on any of the config files that I have on my system. How do I determine which config file pertains to which server install ?
my questions are...
Can I just use a
mv command and blott out all of the old location?
I know that I can set the port for binding to in the conf file, but this doesn't seem to be set for my original version (if so where does it get the default from), so I am a bit tentative in uncommenting the line.
Once I have done the above how can I get both servers to start up automatically? Can they both use the same config file (not withstanding that there are some differences) or do I need to specify the config file in the start up script ? if so where ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
As I say, if there is any info missing just ask and I'll add it in.
I can post my full procedure if you would like, as I had intended to put up a howto thread, but currently as I can't get my new server running it seems not such a good idea.
please note I just found this question but I'm not sure if the APR is the problem in my case, especially as I would like to run both servers simultaneously.
EDIT: Not sure if I should have put this question here or on super user, or can I put it on both (seems like overkill). If an admin feels it is better on super user they can feel free to roll it over to there.
