Short version: jackd is not able to obtain the microphone for some reason and i'm out of ideas. The annoying thing is it was working and now without any deliberate changes it doesn't.
To elaborate a bit, i'm running pulseaudio for desktop stuff, and have set qjackctl to stop pulse long enough for jack to get control of the soundcard when started(which is usb as the onboard sound is broken).
This appears to work fine, jack has the inputs and outputs listed, pulse no longer lists the card it just has jack sync and jack source. Jack will allow you to connect the input to the output, but nothing happens, not even an error.
If you open alsa mixer and unmute the mic then you can hear it so it's not the hardware. Jack will play sound from apps directly or via pulse.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I can post more specs if it will help.
I have read all my head can take of tedious configuration guides for the past three weeks, I'd even appreciate if someone knows how to read dbus' output of what it's doing so I can see if it's that that's causing it.
I've reinstalled it all to no avail. I get no xruns. I have asoundrc set the usb card as default and nothing else.
I don't want to post a bug report until I know it's not a setting error, Please help!
