I expect to get 3Mb/s to 5Mb/s when copying data to an external USB drive. But these days, whenever I try copying files to my USB flash drive, the transfer rate is dropping down to as low as 700KB/s-800KB/s.

What do you think is the problem? Problem with the motherboard? Or the USB ports?

have you checked what your computer does using "top" (open terminal and type "top")? – BHM Feb 14 at 16:10
