Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When I start nvidia-settings, it says that both of my displays are disabled. Except that I'm typing this using display 0. When I try to enable display 0, it says

Separate X Screen (Requires X Restart)

I save the configuration to xorg.conf and restart the X server. Then I'm back to having two disabled displays. I've run out of ideas.

So does anyone have some words of wisdom to offer?

TIA
