I am not too happy with my laptop's battery life and my work consists mostly of text editing so I could do it from a command line.

I am considering booting to text mode, as explained in the accepted answer of this question.

My current battery life time is 1:30 or so. What lifetime should I expect without running any graphic applications?

This will depend on your hardware. It's not possible to tell without you to check the power being drawn. Use upower -d (see the energy-rate field) to get the power usage and compare the results. –  gertvdijk Feb 10 '13 at 22:50
@gertvdijk yes it looks like i will have to test this on my own, just asked in case anyone had already tried it.. –  AnPel Feb 10 '13 at 23:09
Well... just my opinion. 1) you didn't specify any hardware. 2) answers that come in are probably for different hardware. 3) it's a lot quicker to test this yourself than asking this and waiting for an answer. –  gertvdijk Feb 10 '13 at 23:13
@gertvdijk someone could say 'My battery lasted 30% more'. That would be more than enough as an answer, it is obvious that hardware would affect that. BTW I tested it, and it is about 30% more. –  AnPel Feb 13 '13 at 13:20
