I am running Ubuntu 12.04LTS on a Toshiba Satellite P205. The last few updates have been just brutal on this machine for some reason. The one before last changed my Grub and I had nothing but a black screen until I edited back to nomodeset. The most current one drove me crazy for a few hours as well. The most glaring issue was that it stopped using compositing. I had to install gconf-editor just to get compositing going again. But now that I have that much fixed there is still one more issue. I can no longer adjust my screen brightness which is a real issue as this monitor is blinding at full power. I had it set to easily increase / decrease brightness via Compiz-config but this no longer works. I checked Compiz-config and the keys are still set, but they no longer have any effect whatsoever. I've made sure to add acpi_backlight=vendor to my grub, but again, no love. Any thoughts or suggestions?
