Computer will go inactive on AC, but on battery it does not

Question

So I've looked for an answer to this and am not finding any info. My laptop (ubuntu 12.10 64 bit) will suspend as normal if I leave it alone and it's plugged into AC power. After 5 minutes the screen goes dim and eventually the screen will turn off. If I'm running on battery it just stays on all the time. I have the power options set for 5 minutes till suspend on both but on Battery it just ignores it. The Laptop is an HP G6 2239DX
