How do I install BCM43142 wireless drivers for Dell Vostro 3460/3560?

I can't seem to get the wireless working on my new dell laptop. The following are the specs:

01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n [14e4:4365] (rev 01)

It's an i686 arch so I can't directly install the amd deb file available on gemnetworks. Can anyone please help me with this problem?

I am doubtful there is any method to get this device to work in both 32-bit and Ubuntu 12.10. –  chili555 Feb 2 '13 at 16:22
Chili555, why do you say so? I've been trying hard from past few days but to no avail. any workarounds that you can suggest? –  elbis Feb 2 '13 at 17:31
Chris - I've tried almost all the solutions posted for broadcom but none of them have worked for me. My ethernet is working but not broadcom. –  elbis Feb 2 '13 at 17:32
same vendor/product ID in this Q: How do I install BCM43142 wireless drivers for Dell Vostro 3460/3560? –  gertvdijk Feb 2 '13 at 23:00
gertvdijk - look at the answers in the link you provided. there is no answer for an i686/ubuntu 12.10 setup. –  elbis Feb 3 '13 at 4:53
