I have a monitor I use (well actually a widescreen TV) that handles 1920x1080 with no issues, however it can't seem to display common low screenmodes like 800x600. I've found that some older games have a tendency to run at these resolutions by default which leaves me with a blank unusable screen and the need to ssh into the box to restart the xserver.
Is there a way to change the running resolution remotely using xrandr or even stop my machine trying to use screenmodes like 800x600? Ubuntu can't really recognise my TV so it just gives me a lot of common screenmodes. Can I somehow tell it to make hose my TV can't handle unavailable?
