I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my Asus N56VZ and the multitouch works great! The only issue i'm having is that I'm used to having my left index finger idle on the bottom left of the touchpad while mousing around. This seems to make the touchpad stop responding. is there any way I could fix this?

Yes I have. I see what you mean. But my buttons are also part of my touchpad. – Christophe De Troyer Feb 2 at 11:11
