I used Wubi to install Ubuntu so I don't have to deal with making a dual boot on my own, and when I try to boot to Ubuntu using windows 8's UEFI, it says windows can't start in a BIOS-esque box. Ubuntu just refuses to start.

You can't run Wubi with UEFI (GPT disks). It's not possible at this time. Possible duplicate of: askubuntu.com/questions/221835/… – bcbc Feb 1 at 23:53
