My laptop is a

  • Dell Inspiron 14R 5420
  • Video cards: IntelHD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA Geforce GT 630M

Currently running Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS dual boot with Preinstalled Windows 8 system. After I login in the system, the fan starts working non-stop, the fan air is hot and the noise is disturbing. Additional drivers are not working. What can I do to solve the problem without affecting the nvidia settings in windows?

Have you looked at bumblebee? bumblebee-project.org it looks like you have an Optimus system (intel hd with nvidia option). Without having that configuration setup correctly, fan and power control doesn't always function right. For that matter, nvidia fan control doesn't always work right with the open source drivers. –  sean_m Feb 1 '13 at 17:00

drivers remain listed in additional drivers list but when i install them the message is listed that DRIVER IS INSTALLED BUT NOT IN USE..n if i use bumblebee is it sure windwos will not be affected?? –  Mandeep Singh Feb 1 '13 at 17:35

Nothing you do with software in Ubuntu will have any effect on Windows, so you are free to try things. The only thing that can "harm" the Windows install is if you blow away it's partition or edit your grub config so that it can't boot Windows. Since your main concern is drivers and configuring said drivers, I wouldn't worry about it as none of those things should be touched. –  sean_m Feb 1 '13 at 23:39

You might want to explore this wiki for help ubuntu-bublebee. I don't have any Optimus hardware to test on so I can only help point you in the right direction, sorry. If you need any help let me know. –  sean_m Feb 1 '13 at 23:41
