I am definitely new to a Linux based op/sys. I'd like to try it to see if it really does have advantages over the Windows systems where everyday viruses/hackers problems are concerned. I have downloaded both the 12.04 & the 12.10 iso images for Intel 86 32 bit. I can install the 12.10 from inside Windows without any problems at all. I can't seem to do the same with 12.04.
The 12.10 install exe goes thru the initial process of asking one what partition you want to place the install, the size you prefer, your password, and then the procedure begins as it should. But, for some reason if I am trying to install 12.04 (now, understand when doing both of these attempts there is not a Ubuntu op/sys on the hard drive) I cannot do so.
So, I try to do the exact same process using the 12.04 wubi, and after choosing a password and click install the wubi IMMEDIATELY connects to the internet and begins to dl the AMD 64bit iso. It does this EVERY time I attempt the 12.04 install.... (I have the partition that I want to install the op/sys in formatted to NTFS. If I format the partition to FAT32 the exe will STILL want to connect to the internet, but, this time it will try to DL the INTEL x86 iso for the very same iso I am trying to install).
I don't have a 64 bit motherboard, nor an AMD processor, so why does this happen?
I also have created the cd install for Intel 86 and can do the cd install, but, I am not familiar with the needed language when coming to the portion of the install procedure where the op/sys is to be mounted to a particular partition and the language code that has to be typed into the empty box where mount is seen. The files in linux do not appear as in the same manner as they do in a Windows environment.....for ex....C drive, D drive...etc etc and their label...what one sees is /dev/sda and a number, so I'm having a hard time recognizing the partition where i want to place this system.
I've got two things working against me here, my lack of knowledge doesn't help, I've got the Ubuntu install guide for 12.04, it is very long and somewhat complicated, I haven't really found a paragraph that tells me just what the code needed to be entered is, and there doesn't seem to be an article on this instant internet connect to dl another copy of a same? version.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
