Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have just a couple of users in partition /home, say, home/u1 and home/u2, mounted on a 2TB hard disk. Both users use up only about 10 GB of disk space. Quota is not enabled, in fact, when I run quota for either user, quota returns no message.

Yet, when I scan /home with the disk usage analyzer, the program tells me that /home/u1 and /home/u2 are using 100% of their disk space, and if I try to write more stuff on either, I can't.

Therefore my question is: if I have so much space on the 2 TB disk, which is mounted as a Linux Basic Data EXT4 partition, and quotas are not enabled, why am I having this problem?

Thanks
