First, thanks to everyone here. My previous question got me into Lubuntu for my "older" PC and everything is working great now. This computer will be SOLELY for my children, and mostly for browsing PBSKIDS.NET and the like. While browsing linux apps, I heard of this great softare GCompris. I followed these instructions.. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1280450

And thought I was a super star. No errors, make and make install worked great. But I can't find the app anywhere, AND when just typing "gcompris" it says the app is not installed.

I just know the app installed, but maybe under a different name or maybe I just don't know how to launch an app with Terminal. Can anyone give me some HINTS to a noob Linux user? Is there an app directory I can look in, or did I not install it correctly Also, what is "Launcher" and how will I just add a GCompris icon to the desktop so my kids can easily launch it? (I am quite surprised this software wasn't in Lubuntu's Software Center.)

Thanks in advance for any help guys!!!

Well, I said MAYBE as in maybe I"m doing it wrong and I don't really know how to use the commands correctly. i.e. "sh" seems to run something, maybe I need to try sh GCompris, or... Also, I just followed the instructions exactly, when you install an app like this... where are the actual app files? In the same dir as the install files? thanks for your help man – Nathan Smith Jan 30 at 6:17

Please tell us the output of sudo updatedb; locate gcompris; ls -l /usr/local/bin; echo $PATH. This will reveal where it may have been installed, whether or not it's in the usual place for programs you built yourself, and whether or not Ubuntu looks for programs in that usual place. (It may take some time to run that command, that's OK.) – Eliah Kagan Jan 30 at 6:19
OP has asked here as well and provided some additional information. – vasa1 Jan 30 at 6:36
And, as pointed out in this response, gcompris is available from the repos so there was no need to go the make route. – vasa1 Jan 30 at 6:53
