I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 onto my HP Mini 200 netbook via USB. After solving the first problem of the install crashing after selecting 'install alongside windows 7' due to HP's use of the maximum 4 partitions, I now have the problem that although the installation completes successfully, upon reboot the system hangs at "Stopping save kernel messages [OK]'. I cannot do anything but switch off the netbook, although doing this displays the code during the shut down sequence.
If I boot from USB again, it goes back to the beginning of the install screen. If I select 'try Ubuntu', all I get is a blank screen with a blinking cursor.
I have md5 tested the iso I downloaded, it was fine. I used Universal USB Installer as recommended on the Ubuntu download pages.
If I go into Grub and boot in recovery mode, the same thing happens.
I have tried adding nomodeset in Grub but it made no difference. I have also tried booting from the USB, pressing the space bar when the human logo appears, and selecting nomodeset in the F6 menu, and trying Ubuntu straight from the USB.
I have also tried reinstalling Ubuntu and it still hangs, although now it stops at 'Starting deferred execution scheduler [OK]'.
Unless there's a way I can do it in Grub, I have no access to a terminal or anywhere else to input linux commands.
My graphics is Intel GMA 3600. Does anyone have any ideas?
I have read a lot of other questions here but either the answers didn't work or they weren't relevant.
