I am currently dual booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop. When I boot Ubuntu the ethernet connection doesn't connect, and as a result I can't get an internet connection. When I boot in Windows it connects fine. Having done some searching, it seems there is a problem with the ethernet AR8161 card. I have tried following the instructions in other threads, but haven't had any luck. I'm not really familiar with how to find, download and install packages so any advice would be really appreciated. As I haven't been able to get an internet connetion I haven't installed Ubuntu on the machine yet, so I'm still booting it off the USB.

What do I need to do?

I follwed the advice in askubuntu.com/questions/165192/…, and got through to the command sudo make install, but then I got this error: Updating Ubuntu's initramfs for 3.5.0-17-generic under /boot/ ... cryptsetup: WARNING: failed to detect canonical device of overlayfs cryptsetup: WARNING: could not determine root device from /etc/fstab Will now run update-grub to ensure grub will find the new initramfs ... /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: failed to get canonical path of /cow. make: *** [uninstall] Error 1 – Chris Jan 26 at 16:17
