First issue that I'm having is the speakers constantly make a popping sound if I'm playing some form of media but I don't have my speakers hooked up to my laptop. I thought it might have been the power saver settings but when I run the command line prompt to bring up the file to change it from "10" to "0". There's no line that says "power_saver" of any type.

Additionally when I attempt to play DVD's on my Laptop, I have picture. But no sound?

If someone can send me a link to these solutions if they've already been found I would appreciate it. Or at the least tell me what program to download so I can watch standard mainstream production DVD's on my laptop, It would be greatly appreciated!

It has no problem with playing movies that are installed on the hard drive, it just won't play movies that are from the disc. I'm running a Gateway laptop with 1.9 GB Memory, AMD Turion (TM) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37, Gallium 0.4 on ATI RS480, 32-bit OS, with 116.1GB disk. If it's a hardware or a driver compatibility issue please any suggestions on fixing this would be appreciated!!!

Take a look at the Ubuntu docs on Playing DVDs. It sounds like the trouble you're having with DVDs might be a missing CSS (Content Scrambling System) decoder.

Thank you i'll look into the doc's on that but this still doesn't address the issue of the popping sound from my speakers. I still need help in finding where to find the command line that will allow me to change the power_save setting to 0 like the other solutions i've found say to do. – Devin O Townsend Feb 2 at 10:12
