Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

The other day when logging on to 12.10 I saw my launcher had disappeared, as had the top menu. All I could use was the terminal. Following advice from Ubuntu 12.10 shows no launcher or menu I did:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/fglrx
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy

Now I can see the launcher & menu ok, but now I've got a little greyed out box in bottom RH corner saying 'AMD Unsupported Hardware'. I can't take a screenshot as it doesnt show up on the shutter image.

I went to additional drivers to check what changes had been made. I can't post the screenshot as I don't have enough reputation so here's a link to the screenshot

It doesn't give me an option to change back to the ubuntu open source driver or the proprietory driver (not that I want to go proprietory as I reckon that's why I got the launcher issue).

Anyone suggest a solution?
