I'm using the newest version of Ubuntu to test out laptops that I repair as part of my job. I boot off of the USB stick, and sometimes when it comes up to the desktop the menus on the left side, and the drop down menus on the top do not show up. All that shows is the desktop image, the examples folder, and the drive folder. What's going on?

Also, is there a way to put music and movies on the same USB stick to play for testing purposes? When I put them on the stick I can't find them when in the OS.

Lastly, is it possible to explore the Windows folders while in the USB bootable Ubuntu?

Any other testing applications I should put on this key? I do hardware and software repairs.

Thanks!
