Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My company recently moved all systems to ubuntu 12.4. Now issue is that I can login to ubuntu with no issues on my office LAN. But on my home network, I'm facing the login loop issue (enter login details, message "login incorrect") . Guest login is not created (for security reasons) and console login is not working either. Help !!

For console login, i pressed ctrl alt f1. Then tried id and pwd but still login incorrect appears.

Tried sudo chown username:username ~/.X authority , and was again asked id pwd details. Same result- login incorrect

Please be specific. What do you mean by "the login loop issue"? Also, how specifically is the console login not working: what did you try, what did you expect to happen, and what happened? Edit your question to provide the information. –  Paddy Landau Jan 21 '13 at 16:42

One thing that I am not understanding: you say that you are "on my home network". What specifically do you mean? Do you have your computer in front of you, or are you trying to SSH to your computer? Are you just trying to log onto your desktop? –  Paddy Landau Jan 21 '13 at 18:20
